Visual Communications: A Celebration of Community

Featuring: Various Artists

Presented By

Visual Communications

Curated By

Abraham Ferrer

Visual Communications’ (VC) contribution to Photoville is an overview of Asian Pacific American (APA) community and activism, as seen through images culled from the organization’s Asian Pacific American Photographic Archive.

The Archive, a repository of nearly 750,000 historic and contemporary images reflecting APA heritage, community, and involvement, is the inspiration for many of Visual Communications’ film, media, and photographic productions.

Alternating between monochrome and color images, the presentation will echo the exhibition strategies of VC’s past photographic exhibits, which have played on a modular “cube” or building-block display theme.

These themes, emphasizing both mobility, modularity, and inclusiveness, will celebrate community, as VC celebrates a half-century of documenting and celebrating the various APA communities of our relatively young nation.
